Rooks Chess Tournament
The Round Rock ISD Rooks Chess Tournament is for novice players. It is open to any student who is enrolled within the District in grades 2-8. Students must have a current membership to the United States Chess Federation to participate.The Rooks tournament runs from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM on a flexible schedule as rounds finish. After round 1, sections will proceed independently from other sections. We may finish before 4:00 PM. Check in for the Rooks tournament begins at 7:45 AM Round 1 matches begin at 8:30 AM. (Late arrivals will not be added to Round 1 and will be assigned a forfeit loss.) Rounds take from 40 minutes to 1 hour to run and we proceed as quickly as we can throughout the day. Tournament Details: Date: May 3, 2025 Location: Spicewood Elementary School - 11601 Olson, Austin TX 78750 Sections: Under 600, Under 300 (Sections may be merged if needed) 5 Rounds Time Control: Game in 30 delay 5 Clocks and boards provided Students who place in the top 6 of their section will receive a certificate. To register your student for the tournament please complete the following form before April 27th at 5:00 PM. Registration closes at that time or when the tournament seats fill.

Students will use the DRAAW + C writing framework used in law schools across the country to write their argument. This class is designed for students who enjoy analyzing facts and having engaging discussions across a variety of topics.Note: Students will need their Round Rock ISD student issued Chromebooks and chargers for this session.

This STEM Robotics beginner camp has it all: building, creating, designing, engineering, coding concepts, and basic robotics and drones. We aim to make a child's first experience with STEM both fun and engaging, so we create a space for the kids to work collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. This is a very hands-on camp. Our belief is, the more fun they have in this learning environment, the more likely they are to continue pursuing STEM opportunities in the future. *Full Day* LEGO® Robotics: Spybotics (Gr. 3-7) by ESTEAM Learning Labs
Robotics
For our advancing robot engineers, join the elite group of recruits to become a spy-in-training. Agents in training will receive their super-secret mission during each camp and then learn to build and code a robot that will have to move through obstacles to retrieve top-secret documents. They will be challenged to incorporate technology concepts, engineering principles, and programming using the LEGO© robotics Construction Kits. Campers will learn how to break or make codes, learn coding, surveillance techniques, critical thinking, and solve logic puzzles. Each camp has new missions! Students who are participating in a full day camp must bring their own nut-free sack lunch, snack, and water bottle. Participants will embark on a journey to design, build, and program a variety of unique LEGO® inventions, ranging from automated machines to dynamic gadgets. Through hands-on projects, students will enhance their engineering, coding, and problem-solving skills. As they build and test their creations, students will gain insight into the process of invention and innovation, learning how these skills apply not just in the realm of LEGO® but in the real world of technology and design. VEX Robotics Introduction (Gr. 6-8)

Students participating in this mid level introductory robotics course will be working with VEX EXP robots. Over the course of the days students will learn the basics of design and and use basic hand tools to build robots in a small group. By the end of the week they will be able to code their robots to participate in challenges or games.
