Rooks Chess Tournament
The Round Rock ISD Rooks Chess Tournament is for novice players. It is open to any student who is enrolled within the District in grades 2-8. Students must have a current membership to the United States Chess Federation to participate.The Rooks tournament runs from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM on a flexible schedule as rounds finish. After round 1, sections will proceed independently from other sections. We may finish before 4:00 PM. Check in for the Rooks tournament begins at 7:45 AM Round 1 matches begin at 8:30 AM. (Late arrivals will not be added to Round 1 and will be assigned a forfeit loss.) Rounds take from 40 minutes to 1 hour to run and we proceed as quickly as we can throughout the day. Tournament Details: Date: May 3, 2025 Location: Spicewood Elementary School - 11601 Olson, Austin TX 78750 Sections: Under 600, Under 300 (Sections may be merged if needed) 5 Rounds Time Control: Game in 30 delay 5 Clocks and boards provided Students who place in the top 6 of their section will receive a certificate. To register your student for the tournament please complete the following form before April 27th at 5:00 PM. Registration closes at that time or when the tournament seats fill.

Students will use the DRAAW + C writing framework used in law schools across the country to write their argument. This class is designed for students who enjoy analyzing facts and having engaging discussions across a variety of topics.Note: Students will need their Round Rock ISD student issued Chromebooks and chargers for this session.

Like to sing? Want to sing better? Glee Singers Camp will provide an opportunity for musical growth and expression in a fun choir experience. Campers will learn fundamental singing techniques, introductory harmony, fun dance routines and stage presence. There will be opportunities to add in personal flare and collaborate in songwriting. We will incorporate a variety of songs from oldies to today's greatest hits a cappella, accompanied by instruments and with backing tracks. Campers will prepare throughout the week for a closing performance on Thursday. No experience necessary. Let your voice be heard! Come learn to rock! Beginner campers will learn to play basic chords and beats, learn to play in time and as a band, learn some recording techniques, and have fun. Campers who already play an instrument will improve their skill and learn how to play as a band. No musical experience required. Drums, guitar, bass guitar, and keyboard will be provided. Campers are welcome to bring their own instruments, including other kinds of instruments which we will incorporate. Summer Strings Ensemble for Violin, Viola, & Cello (Gr. 6-12) by RRISD Teacher

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced musician, this camp will allow you to develop your ensemble skills and enjoy the camaraderie of making music together. Led by Steve Duprez, a seasoned performer with over 50 years of experience in orchestras and community ensembles, this camp promises an enriching and fun experience for all participants. CAMP HIGHLIGHTS: Ensemble Playing: Learn the fundamentals of playing in an ensemble, including listening skills, coordination, and blending with other instruments. All Skill Levels Welcome: Whether you're just starting out or have been playing for years, everyone will find a place to grow and improve. Experienced Instructor: Steve Duprez brings over 50 years of experience in orchestral and community music, ensuring a professional yet relaxed learning environment. Instrument & Stand Requirements: Participants should bring their own violin, viola, or cello, along with a music stand. Group Music-making: Collaborate with other musicians to perform and enjoy playing in a supportive group atmosphere.
