TAG Festival (August 2026 Fifth & Sixth Grade) - Think. Argue. Persuade.
Give your gifted student four exciting days to sharpen their voice, boost their confidence, and have fun thinking big! This dynamic summer experience is designed for students who love ideas, enjoy a challenge, and want to learn how to argue persuasively and think critically. Through hands-on activities like structured and spontaneous (SPAR) debates, public speaking practice, team challenges, and an introduction to Aristotle’s powerful pillars of Logos, Ethos, and Pathos, campers will learn how to build strong arguments, think on their feet, and communicate with impact. From debating real-world topics to friendly competitions and supportive feedback, students will grow their skills while connecting with like-minded peers who love spirited discussion—all in an engaging, encouraging environment that makes learning feel like play.

Pawns Chess Tournament
The Round Rock ISD Pawns Chess Tournament is for true novice chess players who want to experience a formal tournament setting, but aren't ready to commit to having a United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership. It is open to any student who is enrolled within the District in grades 2-8.The Pawns tournament runs from 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM on a flexible schedule as rounds finish. After round 1, sections will proceed independently from other sections. We may finish before 1:30 PM. Check in for the Pawns tournament begins at 8:45 AM Round 1 matches begin at 9:30 AM. (Late arrivals will not be added to Round 1 and will be assigned a forfeit loss.) Rounds take from 20 minutes to 40 minutes to run and we proceed as quickly as we can throughout the day. Tournament Details: Date:May 2, 2026 Location: Cedar Valley Middle School Sections: 2 sections divided by grade based upon registration (Sections may be merged if needed) 3 Rounds Time Control: Game in 20 Clocks and boards provided Students who place in the top 6 of their section will receive a certificate. Prior to registering for this tournament please review the Round Rock ISD Chess Tournament Rules and Guidelines and review our Chess Tournament FAQ Web Page.Space is limited. To register your student for the tournament please complete the registration before April 27 at 8:00 AM. Registration closes at that time or when the tournament seats fill.

Little Coders (Gr. K-2) by Coding with Kids

Our Little Coders camp is an opportunity for young children to develop their computational thinking skills, build their first programs, and have fun with new friends! The curriculum is designed specifically for early readers and takes into account cognitive abilities as well as the attention span typical for ages 5-7. We use age-appropriate online tools, including Lightbot, Kodable, and Scratch to introduce basic coding skills. After the camp, students will be able to share their projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account. Prerequisites: Basic reading helpful but not required. Can handle mouse and keyboard comfortably. *FULL DAY* Python Coding (Gr. 3-6) by Coding with Kids
Coding/Programming
Explore the world of programming with Python! Learn one of the most versatile and beginner-friendly programming languages, used by professionals in diverse fields from software development to scientific research. In this course, students will be introduced to core coding concepts such as variables, loops, functions, and conditionals. To apply and practice the concepts, students will build interactive projects like Dodge the Meteors. Then, they’ll learn intermediate-level coding concepts like arrays, functions with parameters, and game physics! Applying these skills, they will unleash their inner game designers and build their own versions of classic arcade games like Brick Breaker, Bubble Pop, Star Invaders, and Pong. By the end of the course, students will not only have a solid foundation in Python but will also be able to design and develop their own arcade games, combining fun with practical coding experience. This camp combines content from both our beginner camp 'Python: Intro' and our intermediate camp 'Python: Arcade Games'. Needed Supplies: Bring your District Chromebook and charging cord. Little Coders: Robotics (Gr. K-2) by Coding with Kids

Looking for a hands-on STEM course your Little Coder will love? In this course, students will have a blast while learning about robots and how they work. Through visual programming, students will learn computational thinking and basic programming concepts such as: pseudo-coding, code structure, variables, and loops. Students will participate in fun and engaging activities to practice problem-solving and creative thinking. They will complete interactive projects and code their robots to perform tasks like turning the robot’s lights on and off, playing music, moving, and detecting sound. Ready to learn one of the most widely used programming languages in the world? Then this is the class to sign up for. Python is a very versatile and easy-to-learn starter language that is widely used by software developers, scientists and data analysts, from medical research to applications at NASA. Through the games they create, students will learn and practice core coding concepts and learn Python-specific concepts and syntax. Projects range from trivia quizzes to competitive two-player games and everything in between. Students will gain valuable experience with key concepts such as data structures and algorithms. *FULL DAY* Scratch Game Development (Gr. 3-6) by Coding with Kids

Embark on an exciting coding adventure! This comprehensive full-day camp blends coding and creative game development. Students will use Scratch, a fun drag-and-drop coding environment, to learn fundamental coding concepts like variables, loops, and conditionals. Applying these concepts, students will build interest-based games, such as Pet and Ball, Shark and Fish, and Snowman Maze. They will creatively design characters and craft scenes to bring their own story and animation ideas to life. Then, they will level up to intermediate coding concepts like events, functions, and game physics to build engaging platformer games, including a custom Mario game. This camp is a perfect mix of fun and learning! This camp combines the content from both our beginner camp 'Scratch: Intro to Game Development' and our intermediate camp 'Scratch: Platformer and Maze Games I'. Each day combines guided lessons and creative play, helping campers learn logic, sequencing, and problem-solving while expressing their ideas through digital storytelling. By the end of the week, every student will have their own fully playable game to share with family and friends.
