VEX Robotics Introduction (Gr. 6-8) by RRISD Teacher
Students participating in this mid level introductory robotics course will be working with VEX EXP robots. Over the course of the days students will learn the basics of design and and use basic hand tools to build robots in a small group. By the end of the week they will be able to code their robots to participate in challenges or games. Princeton Review SAT® Prep Class
Students who actively participate in the Princeton Review course significantly increase their performance on their SAT, thus increasing their opportunities to gain admission to college and universities, and earn scholarships and entry into select programs. This virtual course focuses exclusively on the math and verbal skills specific to the SAT.Before you register, please be aware of the following expectations: Student should only register to attend one session. Student must attend all days of the course. Student will receive log on instructions from their instructor, and must log on daily by the designated start time for their course and stay every day for the duration of their designated course time. A firm commitment from both the student and their family is required in order to maximize the impact of the course. The fee for this course is $125.00 (reduced from $700.00!) and includes all materials and instruction. Every student is welcome. If financial aid is required to offset the cost, please complete the Scholarship Request Form. Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. We have limited seats available. Based on the success of previous courses, we anticipate that the available seats will fill quickly. No refunds will be issued for Cancellation Request Forms submitted after the 2nd class date. A materials fee of $75 cannot be refunded after materials have been picked up.

Video Game Design Hackathon (Gr. 2-8) by Compuchild #6E

Design. Code. Compete! In Video Game Design Hackathon, students of all experience levels bring their creativity to life by designing and coding their own interactive video games using block-based coding platforms. Beginners start by learning game design basics—character movement, scoring systems, and storytelling—while advanced students dive deeper into multi-level design, animations, and advanced logic. Campers work individually or in small teams, moving from guided challenges to open creation as the week progresses. Along the way, they’ll explore key concepts in coding, problem-solving, and design thinking while receiving mentorship and feedback. The week culminates in a Game Showcase and Hackathon, where all students present and play their games for judges and peers. Top projects will be submitted to CompuChild’s National Game Design Competition, giving every participant a chance to shine! In Debate & Public Speaking Academy, students develop persuasive speaking, argumentation, and critical thinking skills through engaging, hands-on practice. Campers are introduced to multiple debate formats—including Model UN, Public Forum, and mock trials—while building confidence in research, rhetoric, and rebuttal. Through structured exercises, impromptu speaking games, and current event debates, students learn to think on their feet and communicate with clarity and conviction. They’ll also craft and deliver their own TED-style talks on topics they care about. The program culminates in an in-camp debate showcase judged by instructors, followed by a final presentation and certificate ceremony.
