Rooks Chess Tournament
The Round Rock ISD Rooks Chess Tournament is for novice players. It is open to any student who is enrolled within the District in grades 2-8. Students must have a current membership to the United States Chess Federation to participate.The Rooks tournament runs from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM on a flexible schedule as rounds finish. After round 1, sections will proceed independently from other sections. We may finish before 4:00 PM. Check in for the Rooks tournament begins at 7:45 AM Round 1 matches begin at 8:30 AM. (Late arrivals will not be added to Round 1 and will be assigned a forfeit loss.) Rounds take from 40 minutes to 1 hour to run and we proceed as quickly as we can throughout the day. Tournament Details: Date: May 3, 2025 Location: Spicewood Elementary School - 11601 Olson, Austin TX 78750 Sections: Under 600, Under 300 (Sections may be merged if needed) 5 Rounds Time Control: Game in 30 delay 5 Clocks and boards provided Students who place in the top 6 of their section will receive a certificate. Prior to registering for this tournament please review the Round Rock ISD Chess Tournament Rules and Guidelines and review our Chess Tournament FAQ Web Page.Space is limited. To register your student for the tournament please complete the following form before April 27th at 5:00 PM. Registration closes at that time or when the tournament seats fill.

Students will use the DRAAW + C writing framework used in law schools across the country to write their argument. This class is designed for students who enjoy analyzing facts and having engaging discussions across a variety of topics.Note: Students will need their Round Rock ISD student issued Chromebooks and chargers for this session.

Step into a magical world of fairy tales, creativity, and hands-on fun at Enchanted Tales Camp! Each day, we’ll immerse ourselves in a beloved classic, such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, and Rumpelstiltskin. But the adventure doesn’t stop at storytime! After reading each tale, campers will bring the story to life through a variety of interactive activities designed to spark imagination, build skills, and encourage collaboration. Camp Highlights: Fairy Tale Adventures – Discover a new classic story each day and dive into its magical world. Creative Crafts – Design enchanted castles, magical wands, or jeweled crowns, and more. STEM Explorations – Conduct hands-on experiments like building a beanstalk structure, engineering a rubber band carriage, or creating magic potions. Imaginative Play & Games – Act out favorite scenes, go on treasure hunts, and solve fairy-tale-inspired puzzles. Cooking & Treats – Make gingerbread houses, make Cinderella’s pumpkin treats, or create edible fairy tale scenes. Teamwork & Storytelling – Work together to create and share new fairy tales while fostering a love for reading and creativity. Conversational Spanish: ¡Vamos a Hablar! (Gr. 6-8) by RRISD Teacher

In this engaging and interactive class, students will love learning Spanish in a fun, low-pressure environment. Focused on conversation, this camp allows students to build confidence in speaking Spanish, as they practice real-life dialogues. There will be no reading or writing, just plenty of speaking! Camp Highlights: Interactive Conversations: Students will learn basic Spanish phrases to introduce themselves, ask and answer questions, and engage in simple conversations. Essential Phrases: Topics covered include greetings, asking about age, numbers, where they are from, and personal information. Likes and Dislikes: Students will learn how to express preferences in Spanish, helping them build the skills to share more about themselves. Kinder Readiness Camp (for incoming kinder students) by RRISD Teacher
