*Full Day* Introduction to Graphic Design: Learn the Basics (Gr. 6-8) by RRISD Teacher
Art
In this hands-on camp, students will dive into the world of graphic design by exploring the core principles and fundamentals of design. Rather than relying on computer software, campers will work on physical projects that will allow them to experiment with and apply these key concepts. Campers will learn about and practice the five essential design principles: Balance: Discover how to arrange design elements so they work together to create a steady, visually pleasing composition. Hierarchy: Understand how to rank design elements to guide the viewer’s eye and convey the intended message. Repetition: Learn how repeating elements, such as shapes or colors, can bring unity and consistency to a design. Alignment: Gain skills in positioning elements precisely, so they complement and support each other visually. Contrast: Explore how using contrast—through color, size, or shape—can draw attention and emphasize important design components. Through creative hands-on activities, students will gain a strong foundation in graphic design, developing the skills needed to create visually appealing and effective designs.
