We cover a variety of topics that will improve your child’s ability to respond to emergencies, keep themselves and others safe, and provide exceptional child care. Our certified instructors lead engaging class discussions, hands-on skills training, and fun role-playing activities that will prepare your child to become one of the most capable, trusted and in-demand sitters in your neighborhood. This camp is designed specifically for incoming kindergarteners, helping them develop the essential skills they'll need for a successful first year of school. Through fun, hands-on learning, each week students explore the works of a different beloved children's author, with activities that build key developmental skills. Crocheting for Beginners: Make a Shawl (Gr. 8-12) by RRISD Teacher
Art
Get ready to crochet a beautiful shawl just in time for Summer! In this beginner-friendly camp, you'll learn the basics of crochet while creating a full-body, triangular shawl that you'll be proud to wear. Required to Bring on first day: 1 Crochet needle (listed on the yarn - most common is H-8 5mm) and 3 skeins of print yarn. Amazon link for Red Heart sample What You’ll Learn and Do: Crochet Basics: Learn essential techniques like chain stitches, single crochet, and how to follow a pattern. Create a Triangular Shawl: Work on your very own simple shawl using the skills you learn in class. Finish Your Project: By the end of the class, you'll have a completed shawl ready for Summer! Optional Challenge: If you finish early, you’ll have the chance to explore more advanced crochet techniques and start a new project. Step into a magical world of fairy tales, creativity, and hands-on fun at Enchanted Tales Camp! Each day, we’ll immerse ourselves in a beloved classic, such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, and Rumpelstiltskin. But the adventure doesn’t stop at storytime! After reading each tale, campers will bring the story to life through a variety of interactive activities designed to spark imagination, build skills, and encourage collaboration. Camp Highlights: Fairy Tale Adventures – Discover a new classic story each day and dive into its magical world. Creative Crafts – Design enchanted castles, magical wands, or jeweled crowns, and more. STEM Explorations – Conduct hands-on experiments like building a beanstalk structure, engineering a rubber band carriage, or creating magic potions. Imaginative Play & Games – Act out favorite scenes, go on treasure hunts, and solve fairy-tale-inspired puzzles. Cooking & Treats – Make gingerbread houses, make Cinderella’s pumpkin treats, or create edible fairy tale scenes. Teamwork & Storytelling – Work together to create and share new fairy tales while fostering a love for reading and creativity.
