The Round Rock ISD Pawns Chess Tournament is for true novice chess players who want to experience a formal tournament setting, but aren't ready to commit to having a United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership. It is open to any student who is enrolled within the District in grades 2-8.The Pawns tournament runs from 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM on a flexible schedule as rounds finish. After round 1, sections will proceed independently from other sections. We may finish before 1:30 PM. Check in for the Pawns tournament begins at 8:45 AM Round 1 matches begin at 9:30 AM. (Late arrivals will not be added to Round 1 and will be assigned a forfeit loss.) Rounds take from 20 minutes to 40 minutes to run and we proceed as quickly as we can throughout the day. Tournament Details: Date:May 2, 2026 Location: Cedar Valley Middle School Sections: 2 sections divided by grade based upon registration (Sections may be merged if needed) 3 Rounds Time Control: Game in 20 Clocks and boards provided Students who place in the top 6 of their section will receive a certificate.
